Baldo's Story
"He came, he saw, he conquered our hearts."
Baldo is considered part of the family by a lovely woman here in Bellingham. She rescued Baldo when he was a puppy, crossing a busy street and dodging cars in San Jose, California. Baldo's owner said "He came, he saw, he conquered our hearts." She also explained how she had become a widow, and Baldo was still a living link to her husband.
Baldo had what's known as Cushing's disease. Cushing's is a hypothyroid condition along with arthritis, and IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome). In other words, he was like many other older dogs, he had many medical issues. During one of Baldo's walks with his owner, he tore the anterior cruciate ligament, the ligament behind his rear knee. This is a very serious condition for any dog, but for an older dog like Baldo who had other issues as well, it was life threatening. |
His owner had no other income besides Social Security, and she was only able to keep up with Baldo's regular medications and exams by paying her veterinarian continuously. Baldo's veterinarian had taken good care of him since he and his owner moved to Bellingham, and she knows Baldo's "Mom" very well.
In spite of this, a one thousand dollar surgery was not possible with out help. Besides the cost of the needed surgery for Baldo, the veterinarian also needed to take several necessary, yet expensive, tests to be sure Baldo's system could tolerate the surgery.
The Sergey Foundation was able to help little Baldo.
After the testing was through, the veterinarian cleared Baldo for surgery. He made it through his surgery with flying colors! He healed well and was able to gradually extend his daily walks, able to go on as long as forty-five minute walks with owner, sometimes even twice a day! They continued to go on their daily walks, and on those walks they talked to many people. They never missed an opportunity to tell people about The Sergey Foundation. Baldo's owner later wrote to us, saying "So again I say thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for your being there when people are in desperate need of help for their beloved pet."
